About Dr Ismail Abdullah
Dr Ismail Abdullah obtained his medical degree from the prestigious University of Cape Town in 1989 before completing his Pulmonology Fellowship through the SA Colleges of Medicine in 1997. He then served the position of Junior Consultant at the Respiratory Clinic GSH/UCT Lung Institute, before moving on to become a Registrar in the Department of Medicine at Groote Schuur Hospital. He then began his private practice at Gatesville Melomed Hospital.
Dr Abdullah has been working from Melomed Hospital in Gatesville for 20 years. He practices internal and respiratory medicine, but he has a special interest in Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Pulmonary Embolism (PE). Dr Abdullah also conducts clinical research in COPD and Asthma medications for Pharmaceutical companies
Today, Dr Ismail Abdullah is one of the most renowned pulmonologists in Cape town, well-known for his expertise in handling a wide range of lung and breathing problems.
As a pulmonologist, he understands how the airways, muscles, blood vessels and lungs function together to ensure normal easy breathing and he is fully equipped to rectify any issues related to the respiratory system.

Along with his clinical practice, Dr Ismail Abdullah is also actively involved in clinical research trials - phase II to phase IV. He is the principal investigator in a clinical trial for new medications to treat conditions such as Asthma and COPD more successfully.
His passion for his field is apparent - He defines pulmonology as a tool to reinvigorate our bodies with life-giving oxygen. His practice is well equipped with a state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, set in a pleasant, comfortable environment.
